Aleksander Aamodt Kilde will be cheering on his fiancée Mikaela Shiffrin at the 2026 Winter Olympics. Kilde, a professional alpine skier, qualified for the Games but won't be competing.
Who is Aleksander Aamodt Kilde?
Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is from Bærum, Norway, and grew up outside Oslo. He has one older brother, Andres Aamodt Kilde.
He is not related to famous skier Kjetil André Aamodt. Kjetil was one of Kilde's idols, along with Lasse Kjus and Kjetil Jansrud.
Kilde made his World Cup debut in October 2012 and has since won the overall World Cup title in 2020, multiple titles in Super-G and downhill, and an Olympic silver medal in the combined at the 2022 Beijing Games.
How did Kilde and Shiffrin meet?
Kilde and Shiffrin met briefly in 2014 at the Alpine Ski Racing World Cup in Chile. They didn't reconnect until 2021, after Kilde messaged Shiffrin on Instagram to offer his condolences following the death of her father.
In May 2021, Kilde posted a selfie of them on Instagram, writing, “If you know, you know…and now you know.” They went red carpet official that summer at the ESPYs.
What's next for Kilde and Shiffrin?
Kilde and Shiffrin got engaged in 2024. “Having a fiancée that's doing the same job as me and also going through the same challenges, is pretty cool,” Kilde said.
Kilde had a life-threatening crash in 2024 during a race in Wengen, Switzerland. Despite this, he continues to support Shiffrin in her skiing career.
Kilde and Shiffrin's relationship has been a source of strength for both of them. “We’ve been a rock for each other,” Kilde told Olympics.com. “I think that’s how we go about stuff in general. We’ve always supported each other, we’re always trying to look at things in a positive way.”
